Now located in Chassagne-Montrachet, Domaine Famille Picard was founded in 1951 by Louis Félix Picard, who at the time owned two hectares of vineyards in the commune of Chagny.
His son Michel Picard joined him a few years later. At the age of 15, Michel Picard left school at his father's request to help him with his daily tasks. A symbol illustrating this astonishing journey, already imbued with a desire to go further, a Peugeot delivery tricycle is now parked at the entrance to the Château de Chassagne-Montrachet. It was at the wheel of this tricycle that Michel Picard set off to discover the Burgundy vineyards and their stakeholders for many years.
In the early 1970s, he took over the family business, supported by his wife Liliane, who also came from a family of winegrowers. In 1986, he acquired his first estate, Château de Davenay, renowned in particular for its Montagny 1er Cru “Clos Chaudron.” In 1997, he bought Château de Chassagne-Montrachet. Through passion, courage, and determination, Michel Picard has built a family wine estate over the years that is recognized by his peers.
In the 2000s, the Picard family decided to branch out into other French vineyards. This desire to explore new horizons was not a break with tradition, but rather a natural progression for a family driven by curiosity, discovery, and a desire to reveal other expressions of wine.
In 2003, the family made its first mark in the Rhône region with the acquisition of J. Denuzière in Condrieu, the birthplace of the great Viognier wines. Then, buoyed by this experience and captivated by the diversity of the southern terroirs, it continued its journey to Châteauneuf-du-Pape, acquiring Domaine St Patrice in the heart of this exceptional vineyard.
Today, Francine Picard is the conductor of the family's Domaines ensemble and the guardian of a common interregional philosophy.
